Redcentric Data Centres is a UK-based business operating data centres and selling hosting services.
As part of a strategic move, the organisation’s parent company, Redcentric PLC, had been split into two entities to prepare for sale: Redcentric Data Centres and Redcentric Solutions.
Separating the businesses made commercial sense: they were easier to sell individually than as a combined publicly listed company.
However, the split created an immediate challenge.
While Redcentric PLC held ISO 27001 (Information Security Management Systems) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) certifications, the two new entities didn’t.
And they needed to – quickly.
This may not be an everyday situation, but increasingly we’re seeing ISO certification written directly into contracts, making it a fundamental requirement for doing business.
Our contacts at Redcentric Data Centres were Richard Morris, Compliance Manager/Director, and Jax Rhodes, ISO Manager, who’d been tasked internally with getting the certifications over the line.
Richard said: “We wear many hats and none of them were to do with compliance. Mid-October 2025, we were given a new hat to wear.”
With the business restructuring underway, the team had a strict timeline.
ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 needed to be achieved by March as completion of the company sale depended on several criteria – including certification.
The situation was complicated by the fact that the team was starting from scratch.
Richard said: “We were compliance virgins. Not only did we start from zero, we started with zero knowledge, so getting someone who knew the process and knew what we had to have in place for Stages 1 and 2 was essential.”
Stage 1 audits were already scheduled for early November, giving the team a matter of weeks to understand the standards, build a management system, and prepare for audits.
Templates and guidance were available from elsewhere in the organisation, but the new entity needed a system that reflected its own operations.
Jax said: “We could rely heavily on [other parts of the business] for templates and structure, but we needed to make it our management system.”
That’s where iso360 came in.
The team at Redcentric was already familiar with iso360 from our work with the original business. This relationship gave them the confidence to bring us in to support their latest certification journey.
Sarah Etherington from iso360 worked closely with the internal team, helping them understand exactly what was required for Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits.
Her role wasn’t to take over the work, but to guide the process and ensure the right foundations were in place.
Richard said: “Sarah’s involvement was really valuable – risk logs, management reviews, and all the other bits and pieces we needed before going live.”
Working together, the team built the management systems step by step. Clear to-do lists and regular check-ins kept everyone on-task, motivated, and focused on the next milestone.
iso360 also brought in additional support when needed. To ensure independence in the process, Frances Heap from iso360 conducted the internal audits.
Fran’s experience with the wider organisation meant she could assess the new system with valuable context, identifying any remaining gaps before external audits took place.
Despite the tight timeline and steep learning curve, the team had a positive experience working with us.
Richard said: “It felt like one team, whether part of the business or not. ISO isn’t the most engaging subject, but it was made fun. What could have been a daunting, dry subject became a very enjoyable project and that’s down to the people you work with.”
Regular communication and patience were key, especially as the team built their understanding of compliance from the ground up.
“We could ask as many questions as we liked. If we needed to go through something again, there was patience until we got up to speed.”
The team successfully launched their management systems in early January.
Just a week later, they began Stage 2 audits for ISO 27001.
The audits themselves were extensive – including six full days face-to-face with auditors – but the preparation paid off.
Jax said: “We went into ISO 27001 in a really solid state.”
The collaborative approach even stood out to the auditors.
“They could see we worked well together – that came across to the auditors and helped us get the grade we needed.”
With ISO 27001 achieved and ISO 9001 audits following shortly afterwards, the business successfully met the certification requirements needed for the next stage of its strategic plans, all within a matter of months.
Richard said: “Look what we’ve achieved in such a short space of time, working so well as a team.”
For Richard and Jax, the value of our support was clear.
They said: “Sarah has really been our backbone and was instrumental. Without her experience and expertise, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of this.”
Beyond technical expertise, the team valued the collaborative working style that turned a potentially stressful project into an upbeat experience.
“She’s been a superstar, a real team player who created a nice environment to work in straight away. Really lovely to work with and easy to engage with.”
“We come from the engineering world so this is a different world to us, and it was lovely to have this way of working. Sarah’s a great sounding board and she gave focus to everyone in a methodical way so all we had to do was crack on with our to do list and then review what happens next.”
Looking back, they describe the entire journey in simple terms.
“A seamless and painless process.”
With certifications secured and the business prepared for its next stage of growth, the team has gained far more than compliance credentials.
They now have a deeper understanding of governance, risk management, and how strong management systems support the wider organisation.
And if another business found itself facing the same challenge?
“Absolutely 100%, we’d recommend iso360. Everyone we’ve worked with has been amazing.”
