Q5. What’s a project or achievement from your career that you’re particularly proud of? One of my proudest achievements has been successfully transitioning from a career as a video editor into the field of cybersecurity. Moving from a creative industry into a highly technical field presented significant challenges, from learning entirely new skills to adapting to a different work environment and mindset. However, I embraced the change, dedicating time to learn and build on my hands-on experience, and develop a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles. Q6. What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you? Something that might surprise people about me is that the only country I’ve visited so far is Uganda. I’m definitely looking forward to exploring more places and adding to my travel experiences in the future! Q7. What advice would you give to someone starting out in the industry? My advice would be to cultivate a growth mindset, always be open to learning, and view challenges as opportunities for growth. Technology evolves rapidly, and having a mindset that embraces learning will help you stay current and continuously improve.
Seek out mentors and build your network, mentors can offer guidance, share industry insights, and provide feedback on your work. Building connections with peers and professionals in the industry opens up learning opportunities and helps you navigate your career path. Lastly, be patient with yourself. The learning curve can be steep, and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed at times. Technology roles often involve troubleshooting and experimentation, so don’t be discouraged by setbacks, they’re part of the learning process.
Q8. What does a typical day look like for you at iso360?
I like to start my day by getting straight into things, so I usually plan it the night before. I set my tasks for the day, sometimes even schedule emails, and handle any small administrative tasks that can otherwise take up time.
I like to log in to work half an hour to an hour early to make sure I haven’t missed anything from the previous day, all while listening to cybersecurity podcasts to stay up-to-date with the latest industry news. From there, I dive into my daily responsibilities, which vary; some days, I handle audits independently, while on others, I work collaboratively with Sharon and Gray.
