Reflecting on my journey as iso360.io Director - Gray Millen

As I reflect on my journey at iso360, I've come to realise that iso360 is not a destination but a continuous evolution. The world around us is changing rapidly, and so too must our approach to leading. The traditional models of leadership, which often emphasised hierarchy and control, are no longer sufficient in today’s fast-paced, interconnected world. Instead, we need to be adaptable, empathetic, and visionary.

One of the most significant shifts in iso360 has been the growing importance of empathy. In the past, (in my opinion) Director/Leaders were often expected to be distant and authoritative, maintaining a strict boundary between themselves and their teams. Today, this approach is not only outdated but counterproductive. Empathy allows leaders to connect with their teams on a human level, understanding their needs, motivations, and challenges. It fosters trust, loyalty, and open communication, critical elements for any successful organisation.

Personally Incorporating empathy into iso360 doesn’t mean sacrificing authority or decisiveness. Rather, it means recognising that people are the most valuable asset in any organisation and that understanding and supporting them is key to achieving long-term success. By prioritising the well-being of our teams, we create an environment where creativity, collaboration, and innovation can thrive.

Another essential aspect of iso360 is the ability to articulate a clear and compelling vision. In a environment where uncertainty is the norm, we must be able to guide organisations with a sense of purpose and direction. A well-defined vision serves as a compass, helping teams navigate the complexities of today’s business landscape.

However, a vision is only effective if it is shared and embraced by the entire organisation. It also means being open to feedback and willing to adjust the vision as needed, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness in the face of change.

The ability to adapt is perhaps the most crucial skill for iso360. Technological advancements, shifting market dynamics, and evolving societal expectations require us to be agile and forward-thinking. This means being open to new ideas, experimenting with different approaches, and learning from failures.

As long as the amazing people at iso360 continue to want the same things, working as team with the same goal. We continue to be as brave, dynamic and honest as we can be.
